Dietary Counseling Tantrums

I am a Family Practice Physician.  I spent eleven years of my life training to become a physician certified in Family Medicine.  But, I found this wasn’t enough.  I struggled to treat the “diseases of civilization” that arise from society, our Western diet and lifestyle.

I, also, specialize in dietary weight/obesity management and low-carbohydrate/ketogenic diets.  I actually spent an additional three years obtaining specialized training and board certification in this field.   When you add all the training and my years of experience in practice together, I’ve spent over 25 years perfecting this art of medicine.

Because of this training, I have been very blessed that people from all over the world travel to Surprise, Arizona, to see me for weight management, dietary advise, and counseling on the diseases of civilization.  I’ve been amazed that simple changes in diet halt and reverse obesity, arthritis, diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc.  The list goes on and on …

But I find a disturbing mindset pervasive through the community and the nation:

CarbCounseling

After listening to an number of people get angry over this issue in the last few weeks, I began wondering to myself…

“Who ties your shoelaces for you?”

$20.00 is cheap. Don’t let them get you down. I have suffered for many years with autoimmune issues and people like yourself have been my saving grace. Have participated in Keto diet starting last year and it has been a life saver. Thanks for what you do. John from Texas. 74 years young

Heck I’d drive or fly to AZ for this advice. I don’t want a hip replacement and I want to reverse diabetes. Those that complain just don’t see the gift it is.

Who the hell gets mad over $20?! Doctor Nally – I believe you are in the forefront of the ketogenic diet revolution and those podcasts have changed my life. After five weeks on the diet I have dropped the Pravastatin and by necessity the Linsinopril when my blood pressure kept showing up too low. A good problem as it has never been too low in 20 years. Thank you so much and can’t wait for your book!

I couldn’t be more thankful for your efforts. I am just beginning the keto lifestyle, but I’ve already seen some results. Your blogs/vlogs have helped tremendously. I kick myself for not starting sooner! Thank you. I will never complain about anything you do to try to address the diseases of civilization. Thank you for all you do.

  5. Too many people are looking for the quick fix and don’t want to do the work. When I showed my neighbour my new Himalayan Salt night light b/c I have been having problems sleeping she said to just take a sleeping pill! So many people will spend money on hip replacements but not the $20 you charge b/c you are going to make them work, make them change their way of life, maybe even do some soul searching. As someone who is struggling to get rid of sugar in their diet, I know it’s difficult. But in the long run, spending the $20 and do the difficult change in my lifestyle would be so much more beneficial! Keep up the good work DocMuscles!

People want everything for free. Because your a Doctor, your service aren’t as tangible as, say, a hamburger. They consider the services you give as the prize in the Happy Meal, all inclusive. They shouldn’t have to pay extra for it or pay for it at all. The masses have been trained to think Insurance pays for everything and if it’s not covered, your trying to rob them blind. It doesn’t matter that you’ve trained for 20-25 years. It doesn’t matter that you work 18 hours a day and never see your family. It doesn’t matter that you practically have to “PULL TEETH” to ACTUALLY GET PAID BY INSURANCE COMPANIES. None of that matters as long as they can “drive through” get what they want and go on with their lives, because your life doesn’t matter! Your life must be perfect because you’re a Doctor.

Thank Heavens for those who understand, and actually care, you’ve dedicated your life to helping them live a longer happier life. All the sacrifice of your own time and freedom. You’ve given everything to everyone.

How do I know….I’m the wife of Dr. Nally. I’m the one who sees behind the scenes. I’m the one who picks up the pieces when everyone else is done taking advantage and demanding their services for “no out of pocket cost”.

    $20???

Have you got any half price sales coming up anytime soon?

    Just teasing.

On a serious note, Thank You for all of the wonderful, insightful answers you provide on the podcasts. You’ll do an outstanding job.

I would give anything to be able to see you and pick your brain. I , unfortunately, can not travel to Arizona. I have been on Keto/Os since March and the change in my life has been dramatic. I have started the Keto genie diet and am learning. Due to finances, I was unable to have the product for over a week,I could tell

Dr Nally you came to me highly recommended by a previous, coworker, the daughter of a physician… I have exclaimed many times to my friends and family and frankly, to anyone who will listen, how fortunate I feel that you are my family physician!! I have bragged about how you are a board certified bariatrician, and about the keto lifestyle, and how knowledged you are about it. Your passion and skill, and willingness to hand out free advice is overwhelming…THANK YOU!

Hidden behind all that complain are those that don’t and appreciate all you do.
    “The squeaky wheel gets oiled”
All us happy “wheels” are sincerely grateful for yours and others in Keto discipline training.
As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t mind a blog membership monthly fee.
Your teachings and Jimmy’s have effected my whole family for the better. My adult son is 25 pounds lighter and loves his bacon. Two of our employees have glowing faces in the morning. My sister is pulling old smaller clothes out of the closet. They are all shocked by the changes. All I can do is say Wow!
Yes you are appreciated and I would back that up with my wallet.

Dr. Nally has been my family practioner for quite a while and it took some time to get this old hard head to understand that a change of lifestyle was necessary. The pills surely won’t do it. I finally started to seriously begin the Ketogenic diet this past January and today I tipped the scales at 215 lbs, (After a week’s vacation on the beach in California). I started somewhere in the 240’s with a glucose holding steady around 170. My blood pressure is mostly in the normal range, glucose reading 95-115, pants starting to fall off. Getting there for my 76 years and exercising at least 3 times a weeks using the Power Max technique. Do I ever feel great and I got to swim in the ocean with my grandsons.
