How do you know if you’re insulin resistant?  The following flags will give you some direction:

  • Acanthosis Nigricans

  • Triglyceride/HDL Ratio greater than 3.0
  • Elevated small dense LDL particle number > 500
  • Fasting Insulin Level >5 mg/dl
  • Fasting Blood Sugar >100
  • Post-Prandial Blood Sugar >140 (2 hours after a meal)
  • Waist Circumference > 40 inches in men; >35 inches in women

  • Family History of Diabetes

  1. Great post Dr. Nelly! I don’t have any of these conditions but my HbA1C was 5.5 nov 2015 (5.3 2014) glucose 66 and LP-IR score of <25 you got derailed and lost your thought about the ideal LP-IR score. Am I getting insulin resistance? Any thoughts? All other lab results were fine.
