  1. My weight loss is slowing – How much protein is too much protein? Is it determined by weight and height? Thank you.

    • Joan, protein is determined by individual ideal body weight. For women it’s 1mg/kg of ideal bodyweight. For men it is 1.2mg/kg of ideal body weight.
How do you calculate ideal body weight (IBW)? A rough estimate can be taken from the following fomulas:

Estimated ideal body weight in (kg):

Males: IBW = 50 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.
Females: IBW = 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.

Measure your height and then calculate your IBW off of your height. IBW is an arbitrary calculation and does not take into account frame size (small, medium or large), however, this is the easiest way to calculate an IBW for “ball-park” protein needs.

      Hope this helps.

      • Hello again. Your reply to my question about daily protein made sense until your last paragraph. It got confusing there. Is this right?
IBW is my goal weight in pounds divided by 2.2 to get kg. Then it is 1 gram of protein for each kg of weight? Thank you for your help.

      • Joan,
I realized my response above was a little confusion. I have edited it. Hopefully this will help. All you need is your height to make the calculation.

    • I use butter . . . real butter from grass fed cows and bacon grease (we actually have a jar sitting next to the stove with bacon grease – just like grandma used to have). We also use olive oil and coconut oil depending on the desired flavor.
